It’s a bitter irony that the public figure with facial pain in this post is H.R. Hudson, the singer and front man of the hardcore punk band called Bad Brains.
I’m going to be perfectly honest. I hesitated to post about this at all because it is a swirling mess of misinformation. Normally, articles about people with facial pain have at least a few errors in them owing to the fact that the writer was unfamiliar with the condition and got a bit mixed up in their research. However, the writers of these articles about H.R.’s case couldn’t have researched his condition at all. The Rolling Stone piece never even names his condition. The others give his condition too many names:
My impression of the situation, and ultimately what led me share his story here is that, sadly, H.R. seems to have very little insight into his own condition. This is a perfect example of why Face Facts exists in the first place. We are here to inform patients and physicians alike about the many forms of facial pain and the appropriate treatment options for each of them.
Let’s raise awareness of facial pain and eradicate the rampant misinformation and widespread ignorance of our conditions. Awareness will bring better outcomes for all.
