I will read anything having to do with facial pain, whether it is a simple brochure or complicated medical research. The latter of the two, medical research, is a much greater challenge to read and comprehend, but it is of infinitely greater value. The major stumbling block to my accessing the value of published research is my layperson’s inability to decipher some of the highly specialized, jargon-filled verbiage common of research papers and journals. This creates a frustrating and impenetrable barrier between me and the potentially life-saving information encrypted in published research. What if there were a way to bridge that barrier?
Please allow me to introduce Evidence Bay, an online initiative to help patients better understand medical research publications that may be relevant to them.
Can you understand medical research?
Have you or a loved one ever been a patient?
Did you wonder whether the latest medical research would be useful to you, but didn’t think you could find, or even make sense of, research publications?
If we cannot access and understand the latest medical research, we cannot actively engage in discussions with doctors about the management of our medical problems. With something as important as our health we cannot rely on every healthcare professional being completely up to date with the latest research. At Evidence Bay, we believe that understanding the implications of medical research is something we should all be able to do!
I am looking forward to watching this concept and initiative gather steam. If you are interested in supporting Evidence Bay as they build and grow, you can do so at their GoFundMe page.
